We had heard for years that Acadia National Park and Maine were beautiful, so we decided to finally make the trek up there and see for ourselves. We were not disappointed, to say the least. Bar Harbor and all the seaside villages on the island are scenes taken straight out of a movie set. Acadia National Park is one of the most unique parks we’ve ever visited, in the sense that the park itself is interlaced and woven like a tapestry throughout private property, small villages and public infrastructure on the island. It’s sometimes hard to tell when you’re in the park versus just hanging out among the locals in their peaceful towns. It was definitely a warm feeling to see locals greet each other in stores, cafes, and gas stations. You can really tell Mount Desert Island is a tight knit community.
We selected the Seawall Campground to be our home for 5 days and it was amazing.
We, as a family, LOVE tent camping and the outdoors anyway, but this campground had so many of our favorite features to it: 1) wooded, 2) cool temps, 3) spacious and quiet campsites, 4) near attractions that keep us all occupied. This campsite was literally within walking distance of the Atlantic coast, we enjoyed several nights out there listening to the waves crash and watching stars. Our two fishermen also enjoyed trying to catch some fish there:
As you may have noticed in our pictures, we dabbled in a wide variety of activities in Acadia. This place offers so many awesome things to do that it’s definitely worthy of another trip...or more. We enjoyed the lobster boat tour, walking/shopping/drinking/dining in Bar Harbor, the quintessential New England quaint small seacoast town, swimming at Sand Beach, mountain biking through the densely wooded park on the carriage trails (no motor vehicles allowed), but I think the memory that stands out the most for all of us was the last minute addition we threw onto the agenda: hiking Bee Hive! That deserves a blog entry of it’s own.
